Northern Counties Turn Black and White for Carabao Cup

In preparation for Newcastle United playing for the Carabao Cup at Wembley, Northern Counties kicked off the celebrations last week with a Black and White day.

Northern Counties was kitted out in black and white across the whole school, from balloon arches, to food, to the staff and pupils in football strips.

Celebrations started with our BSL choir performing ‘I’m coming home Newcastle’ and ‘Blaydon Races’ before all of our pupils joined in to dance to , waving that had kindly been lent to us.

We then shared two very exciting video messages from local legends: former Newcastle player Alan Shearer and MC Tazo who both wished us good luck with our Black and White Day.

Pupils decorated bedsheets that we hung over the school’s entrance, wishing the players good luck and to bring home the win. It may just be possible that our pupils’ efforts were their good luck charm, as we won the cup!

Facepainting, balloon games and even a penalty shootout with headteacher Martin Lonergan in goal followed. Our pupils had an incredible day cheering on our team and we certainly were in high spirits.

BBC Look North, ITV Tyne Tees and Local TV Tyne and Wear even visited to join in on our celebrations. Watch this video to see our Black and White Day in action!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to the staff who planned this incredible day for us all to enjoy – it was definitely one to remember!
