Family Information and FOPHS News Friday 21st February 2025

As we end the first of the spring half terms, it is lovely to see the nights getting lighter. I just wish the temperature would keep pace and get a little warmer. Some of our Post 16 students have been at Calvert Trust, Keswick on a residential trip. The weather appears to have been reasonable. I have been sending short daily updates to parents/carers and they are enjoying the activities.

I hope you鈥檝e got some plans for half term and that you鈥檝e found some useful information on activities from my weekly blogs. I always appreciate feedback, good or bad as I want them to be helpful. Remember school reopens to staff and students on Monday 3rd March.

Here are the links to the calendars:

Term dates 2024-25

Term dates 2025-26

Events calendar 2024-25:

Amendment: FoPHS meeting which was scheduled for Monday 3rd March will now be held on Monday 10th March from 14-15.00. I feel that the first day back is not the best day, my error.

Thursday 6th March: World Book Day. This year students and staff are invited to wear something comfortable for reading, pyjamas, snoodie, tracksuits etc. As always this is optional and those who prefer to wear their school uniform may do so.

Friday 15th March: Red Nose Day/Comic Relief. Details to follow.

Free School Meals:

Those in receipt of free school meals AND income related vouchers for the holidays should have activated these now. I sent reminder texts on Wednesday as I was asked by North Tyneside to do so as there will not be anyone in school to assist over the holidays. Once these expire, they will be cancelled by the Council and cannot be reissued.

Mother鈥檚 Day Sale

The student council has sent a letter home today asking for donations for their annual Mother鈥檚 Day Sale. If you are new to school, this is their fundraiser and a great opportunity for them to work as a team and use their social interaction skills. They ask for donations of suitable gifts, no alcohol as we cannot sell this to children and no nuts as we are a nut free school. Then on Friday 28th March students will have the opportunity to choose a gift for their mother or significant female in their lives at a cost of 拢3. Please send in after half term, for the attention of Amanda Waugh or me.

Online Safety:

The link to the Online safety information can be found on the school website under the heading 鈥淧arent and carers area鈥, then 鈥渙nline safety鈥 from the dropdown menu.

It is here: /percy-hedley-school/e-safety/

Here is the online safety blog for this week. It鈥檚 on the new app 鈥榠REPORTit鈥- where anyone can make an anonymous report again harmful extremist activity they see online. We鈥檝e included some useful links as well to support parents over the half term

Information

After half term I will share up to date information on applying for DLA and PIP. I recently attended online webinars run by the Disability Advice Team from DWP. So, if you are in the process of applying for either don鈥檛 hesitate to get in touch.
